ONEONTA, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team closed Empire 8 dual-meet action with a 188-111 win at Hartwick College on Saturday afternoon.
Youssef amr Abdallatif (Cairo, Egypt/Raya Language School) had two pool records in the backstroke events at SUNY Geneseo's Alumni Pool on Wednesday and added another two pool records at Hartwick's Sally Griffiths Herbert '88 Aquatic Center, Moyer Pool on Saturday. He broke both of Stevens Institute of Technology's, six-time All-American
Ravi Sun's 2013 records. Abdallatif began by breaking the 100-yard backstroke record of 51.55 with a new record of 49.87. He then went on to break Sun's record of 1:52.11 in the 200-back, setting a new pool best time of 1:51.80. Both Sun and Abdallatif broke Hartwick's pool records during their first-year seasons. Abdallatif nearly broke another Moyer Pool record on Saturday when he won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 50.74, just shy of Hartwick's own
Mikey Schultz and his time of 50.50, set in 2024. Abdallatif added a 200-yard medley relay win on Saturday as he posted the fastest backstroke leg time of 23.62 to kick-off the combined winning time of 1:37.08. He was joined by
Carlos Gonzalez (Baja California, Mexico/Unifront),
Andre Ayala (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria No°5) and
Calem Striker (Hornell, NY/Hornell) for Saturday's first event victory.
The Saxon B-team in the 200-yard medley relay reached the final wall in second place. The team of
Diego Monroy (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Simon Bolivar),
Mahmoud Elkady (Cairo, Egypt/Smart City),
Keagen Winkky (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and
Uros Stojic (Niš, Serbia/Prva niška gimnazija Stevan Sremac) combined for a time of 1:42.34.
Ayala, just like Abdallatif, was not only undefeated in individual events and his relay event, but also almost broke a Hartwick Moyer Pool record. He won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:47.19, just short of the 2013 record of 4:45.57, held by Hartwick's
Kenny Kleso. Immediately following the win of the medley relay, Ayala clocked a time of 10:10.33 in the 1,000-yard freestyle for his first individual win of the day before he went on the win the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:56.44.
Striker led the charge of a Saxon 1-2-3 finish in the 200-yard freestyle. He swam a winning time of 1:50.21 before
Emmanuel Drappatz (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Hill) reached in 1:51.15 and Stojic claimed third place with his time of 1:53.80. Gonzalez went on to win the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:09.72, followed by Elkady in third place with a time of 2:17.21. The Saxon pair finished second and third, swimming respective times of 59.44 and 1:00.07 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Gonzalez ended his individual efforts with a win in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking a time of 1:59.71. Drappatz won the 50-free with a time of 22.43 and later led a gold-silver finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.35 as Striker took second with a 49.47.
Jaxson McQuaid (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) added a win on the 1-meter board, scoring 260.90 points before he completed the sweep of the diving events, scoring 230.00 on the tall board. "Jaxson had a really good day on the boards doing as well as I have seen him do on 1-meter, while winning both," Head Coach
Brian Striker '00 said. "The swimmers looked pretty good, albeit the times reflected a bit of fatigue. It has been a pretty rough couple weeks of training along with three away meets the past eight days."
The Saxons will next host the final dual-meet of the 2025-26 season on Saturday, January 24 at noon in non-conference action. They will welcome the Panthers of University of Pittsburgh at Bradford while they also celebrate the careers of
Tucker Jones (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) and Winkky in pre-meet ceremonies.
