ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's basketball team wrapped up their weekend with a 67-62 loss to Utica University on Saturday afternoon from the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.
Tyler Curran (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) led Alfred University with a team-high 24 points to go with seven rebounds and a pair of assists.
Tyler Hind (Randolph, NY/Randolph) registered 12 points and three boards.
Nolan Gilbert (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) added nine points for AU.
The Saxons built an early lead for themselves following eight consecutive points from Curran. A deep shot from Hind extended the advantage into double-digit figures for Alfred University. Later in the half, another shot from beyond the arc by Hind had the Saxons leading by as many as 24 points. The defense allowed just five points inside the first 10 minutes of action before taking a 39-16 lead into the break. Utica began the second half on a 10-0 run to cut into their deficit. The Pioneers climbed back into the contest, taking their first lead of the matchup with 59 seconds remaining. In their next possession, a layup from Curran gave the lead back to AU. The Pioneers added six additional points in the final minute to hold on for the win.
Alfred University will next travel to play Hartwick College on Friday at 7:30 PM.
