ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team came up at St. John Fisher University by a competitive score of 4-3 on Friday.
"An absolute battle," Head Coach
Jake Fisler said. "This was an extremely competitive match and both teams came out to play. I was very pleased with how hard the team fought and supported one another. Even though it wasn't the result we wanted, it is a good reminder that we are moving in the right direction. And with the buy in of the team, it is only a matter of time before we get where we want to be. Looking forward to taking this competitiveness into tomorrow against Brockport at home."
The Cardinals (3-1, 3-0 Empire 8) took the doubles point to start the match.
Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) got the first win for the Saxons (5-3, 2-2 Empire 8) in singles. She defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2.
The rest of the match was back and forth between both teams.
Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Education Complex #143) won at No. 1 by scores of 6-3, 6-4.
Allison Windisch (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland) picked up a win at No. 5 with 6-4, 6-4. Unfortunately, St. John Fisher scored the victory at No. 6 to bring the match to its final score.
The Saxons return home to host SUNY Brockport for Senior Day on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
