BUFFALO, NY -- The Alfred University men's rugby team took home win number two of the season, beating Buffalo State 40-22 on Saturday afternoon. They move to a 2-1 record both overall and in conference play.
"Hard fought victory today," Head Coach
Dale Russell said. "We scored first and never gave up the lead. The team showed grit playing down a man the last 15 minutes. We're looking forward to next week against Ithaca."
Five different players had successful tries, with
Ayomideji Israel-Akinbo (Makhanda, Eastern Cape, South Africa/St. Andrews College) leading the way with two. The other four players each had one try, those being
Joseph Bodley (Le Roy, NY/Caledonia-Mumford),
Phillip Peterson III (Auburn, NY/Auburn),
Eddie Hart IV (Wilton, NY/Saratoga Springs), and
Zachary Cuddy (Whitman, MA/South Shore Vocational Technical).
Cuddy also continued his streak of conversions, finishing with five on the day. Down to 14 players in the final 15 minutes, AU battled hard and take a swing of momentum into its next match up.
That next match up comes back under the lights at Yunevich Stadium on Saturday for the first of three in a row at home. They'll face Ithaca College at 6:00 p.m.
