UNION, NJ – The Alfred University women's volleyball team fell in two non-conference matches on Friday evening at the Kean University Invitational, falling in the first match to the hosts and then to Salisbury University.
The Saxons (1-9, 0-0 Empire 8) fell to both teams in three sets. First, against Kean, they dropped a 22-25, 23-25, 16-25 narrow loss before ending the day with a scoreline of 13-25, 16-25, 15-25 to Salisbury.
Taylor Malone (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and
Carleigh Santavy (Commerce, MI/Walled Lake Northern) each recorded 10.0 points in the nightcap match. Santavy scored all of her points on her 10 kills, being a match-high. Malone had nine kills and one ace.
Meeghan Peterson (Amherst, NY/Williamsville South) had the team's high score in the opening match against Kean, recording 7.0 points on six aces and one kill. Her aces tied for second all-time (rally-scoring era) for a three-set match.
Delaney Sims (Bogart, GA/George Walton Academy) recorded 14 set assists and 13 digs to lead the Saxons in both categories against the hosts.
The Saxons will next close out the weekend with matches against Drew University and Hunter College on Saturday afternoon. The first match will start at 1:00pm with the closer going at 3:00pm.
