ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team started its Empire 8 slate on a high note with a 7-0 victory over Russell Sage College (0-3, 0-1 Empire 8) on Saturday.
"The team put together a dominant performance to open up conference play," Head Coach
Jake Fisler said. "We are extremely excited to keep the momentum as we host Utica tomorrow."
In doubles,
Alyssa Seegert (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) and
Becca Epping (Mitchell, IN/Bedford North Lawrence) won 6-0 at No. 2.
Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Educational Complex #143) and
Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) also defeated their opponent by the same score at No. 1. AU won by forfeit at No. 3 to secure the doubles point.
Madsen started things off in singles with a win of 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Epping earned her 10
th career singles victory at No. 4 by scores of 6-0, 6-1. Seegert (No. 3), Zabihailo (No. 1) and
Allison Windisch (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland) (No. 5) each won their respective matches, 6-0, 6-0. Once again, the Saxons took the singles point on a win by forfeit at No. 6.
AU concludes the weekend with another E8 match up against Utica University on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
