ALFRED, NY -- The Alfred University men's soccer team have won two straight at Yunevich Stadium, most recently with Saturday night's game versus Keuka College 2-0.
"Our guys were so hard working tonight," Head Coach
Garret Eldridge said. "I thought our running and willingness to play behind them was fantastic."
Alfred's legs came from
Hamza Kromah (Margibi, Liberia/Western Reserve Academy), who ran up and down playing the full 90 minutes. He also opened the scoring for AU in the 23rd minute. It came with a nice assist from one of his captain,
Rodrigo Perez (Pelencia, Spain/IES Victorio Macho).
Another Saxons captain tallied another, with
AJ Giaquinto (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) guiding home his header with authority. The senior defender's first career collegiate goal came off a brilliant corner kick delivery from
Niko Lampros (Lake Oswego, OR/Lakeridge).
The corner kick was set up nicely by
Dennis Hayes V (Ferndale, MI/Berkley) forcing a diving save, after his shot nearly tucked in the bottom corner. It helped part of an onslaught of shots, 24 total shots. Eight shots made it on frame, and 17 shots alone came in the second half while pinning the Wolves back.
While Keuka College totaled 11 shots in the match, only two made it on net. Both were comfortably saved by
Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township), who wasn't kept too busy in his defensive end. AU opens Empire 8 conference play with a 1-0-0 record, moving to 3-3-0 overall.
They'll look for a repeat effort in their third straight home game against Russell Sage College on Saturday, September 20 at 1:00 p.m.
