WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Alfred University women's tennis team secured a 7-0 victory at Lycoming College (0-1, 0-0 Landmark) on Wednesday, marking its third straight win.
"Absolute night and day difference from last year and even the first match this season," Head Coach Jake Fisler said. "It was clear the team came to compete and the score reflects that. Super proud of the effort and can't wait to carry this momentum into the weekend."
Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) and
Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Educational Complex #143) started off doubles play with a 6-2 win at the No. 1 position. AU (3-1, 0-0 Empire 8) then earned the doubles points on 6-1 victories from
Allison Windisch (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland) and
Alexis Gits (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) at No. 3, followed by
Alyssa Seegert (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) and
Becca Epping (Mitchell, IN/Bedford North Lawrence) at No. 2.
The singles portion of the match opened with Epping taking the win at the No. 4 position by a score of 6-0, 6-2. Windisch and Gits followed at No. 5 and No. 6, both by 6-1 6-1. Madsen (6-2, 6-2) and Zabihailo (6-1, 6-4) extended the team score with victories at No. 2 and No. 1. Seegert was a part of a tiebreaker at No. 3, coming on top at 6-3, 2-6, 10-5.
AU gears up for its first two Empire 8 matches of the season at home, beginning with Russell Sage College on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
