NIAGARA FALLS, NY -- The Alfred University men's rugby team took part in the Lt Col Crowe 7s Tournament with four matches, coming home with a second win this season.
AU opened the day with a 45-5 loss to Springfield College, followed by a 19-0 loss to Le Moyne. In the two afternoon matches, the Saxons would fall to Colgate 41-15 but beat Ithaca College with a convincing 32-7 scoreline.
Alfred University had two members conclude the day with four tries. First-year
Phillip Peterson (Auburn, NY/Auburn) led the day with four, followed suit by
Edward Hart IV (Wilton, NY/Saratoga Springs) with four of his own.
Hector De La Rosa (Williamson, NY/Sodus) had a try of his own succeed. Plus,
Chevon Adriaans (Paramaribo, Suriname/SGS) had both a try and a conversion in the full day of action for Head Coach
Dale Russell and his side.
"The performance today was hard fought and tough rugby,"
Phillip Peterson said. "We showed that we have potential to do anything we put our minds to. We hustled the whole time and left everything out on the field and I'm proud of the team."
Sunday's matches wrapped up the inaugural season of the men's rugby program with plenty to grow upon and plenty to like. They'll turn their attention to the offseason and prepare for the fall season.
