ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team wrapped up their week with a 23-1 loss to St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon from Growney Stadium.
"We knew coming into it that this was a very good nationally ranked team," Head Coach
Julie Decker said. "The score doesn't reflect the positives in that we improved on our defensive slides, had some nice plays on the ride, and had several good looks on attack. Our mental toughness was really tested today, and it's imperative for us to focus on the great plays and improvements we made against a really good team."
The Saxons defense was put to the test early, as
Molly Howlett (Brockport, NY/Brockport) recorded four saves in the opening quarter.
Morgan Wise (Kittanning, PA/Armstrong) was credited with a pair of ground balls for AU, but the team was behind 10-0 entering the second quarter. The Cardinals added six more goals before halftime, extending their advantage over the Saxons. The lone goal for Alfred University came in the fourth quarter, as
Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) put the Saxons on the scoreboard at the 3:44 mark. With the running clock, however, St. John Fisher was able to come away with the win.
Alfred University will host Brockport on Wednesday at 5:00 PM.
