UTICA, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team continued their spring season with a 20-4 loss on the road against Utica University on Saturday afternoon.
"We got off to a slow start but had a good second half," Head Coach
Julie Decker said. "I am proud of the way we locked in to finish strong. We showed a lot of grit to keep fighting and stay in it."
The first goal for Alfred University (5-9, 2-5 Empire 8) came in the third quarter, as
Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor) recorded her second goal of the spring campaign. Roughly five minutes later, an assist from
Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) to
Megan Rinker (Le Roy, NY/Le Roy) cut into the deficit for the Saxons. In the closing moments of the third quarter, Booth registered her 13th goal of the season.
In the following quarter,
Kylee Bedette (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) found
Paige Stansfield (Painted Post, NY/Corning-Painted Post) for a goal at the 3:10 mark. However, the Pioneers (7-7, 3-3 Empire 8) relied on multiple goals across all four quarters to come away with the win.
Alfred University will next compete in their final road game of the regular season at SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
