Women’s Lacrosse Drops Home Contest Against Nazareth

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team dropped its Empire 8 home game to Nazareth University, 20-6, on Wednesday.

Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) led the Saxons with four goals while recording her ninth career double-digit performance in draw controls with 10. She is 11 goals away from becoming the program's all-time leader in career goals. Kylee Bedette (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) and Paige Stansfield (Painted Post, NY/Corning-Painted Post) scored one goal apiece.

Stansfield, who made her first career appearance as goalie in the first half, collected a season-high six saves while picking up a season-high eight ground balls. Harper Smith (Randolph, NY/Randolph) also played in net for the first time during the second half, registering a season-high five stops.

Prior to the game, Alfred University women's lacrosse took time to celebrate Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night, where members of the team got to honor specific mentors for their ongoing success off the field.

"We brought good energy to the game today," Head Coach Julie Decker said. "Huge shoutout to Paige Stansfield and Harper Smith, who played phenomenally in goal today when we needed them. Everyone stepped up to make plays all over the field. As a team, we battled for 50/50 balls better today than we have all year. Proud of the way we played with pride, composure and guts when we have been dealing with injuries and are at a pivotal time in the season."

The Saxons (5-9, 2-5 Empire 8) were outshot by the Golden Flyers (10-5, 6-1 Empire 8) 44-19 and 28-11 in between the pipes.

Alfred University travels to Utica University for a road contest on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
