ONEONTA, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team concluded their weekend with a 19-4 loss to Hartwick College on Saturday afternoon.
Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) finished the game with a pair of goals and eight draw controls.
Megan Rinker (Le Roy, NY/Le Roy) and
Morgan Wise (Kittanning, PA/Armstrong) each registered one goal.
Molly Howlett (Brockport, NY/Brockport) matched her season-high with 11 saves for AU.
"This one hurt," Head Coach
Julie Decker said. "We had a tough time taking care of the ball and lacked discipline with some of the penalties we were getting. We weren't really able to pick up any kind of momentum."
The Saxons were the first to get on the scoreboard in the opening quarter, as Booth found the back of the net during a free-position attempt for the initial lead. The Hawks answered with five straight goals before Wise recorded her fourth goal of the spring season. Hartwick added one more goal before taking a 6-2 lead into the second quarter.
Alfred University relied on a free-position goal from Rinker to cut into their deficit in the second quarter. Howlett was credited with four saves in the quarter, but Hartwick went into halftime with a 12-3 advantage.
The lone goal for Alfred University in the second half came from Booth, who scored at the 5:05 mark of the fourth quarter. The Hawks responded with seven goals of their own to close out the game with the win.
Alfred University will next host Nazareth University on Wednesday at 5:00 PM. Prior to the game, members of the women's lacrosse team will celebrate Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day.
