HOUGHTON, NY - The Alfred University baseball team began their series against SUNY Poly with a 12-4 loss on Friday night.
Alex Beaird (Oswego, IL/Oswego) got the initial start for Alfred University on the mound, striking out two batters across the first two innings of action. The Saxons relied on four different pitchers as part of the relief efforts.
The first hit for AU came in the fifth inning, as
Nolan Pridmore (Toronto, ON, Canada/Etobicoke Collegiate Institute) recorded a double down the left field line. Two innings later, a double from
Jeff Petrozzini (Hopewell, NJ/Hopewell Valley) put the Saxons on the scoreboard. In the following at-bat, fielding miscues from the Wildcats allowed Petrozzini and
Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) to cross home plate. Later in the inning, another fielding mishap from SUNY Poly gave
Cameron Brought (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro) the chance to score.
The Saxons had opportunities on the offensive end with runners in scoring position throughout the evening, but couldn't close the deficit before the end of the game.
Alfred University will next conclude their series against SUNY Poly on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM.
