ALFRED, NY - A standout offensive performance from the Alfred University women's lacrosse team resulted in a 17-5 win over neighboring Alfred State College on Wednesday night.
Eight different players from Alfred University (1-4, 0-0 Empire 8) scored, while the team converted 19-of-21 clear attempts as part of the win.

Kylee Bedette (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) contributed with a pair of goals and assists.

"This was a great team win!" Head Coach
Julie Decker said. "We had nine people get in the points column and many others contributed with ground balls, caused turnovers, on draws, as well as other intangible yet impactful ways. We came together and worked cohesively to get the job done throughout the field."
Booth set the tone early for AU in the opening quarter, scoring two goals within the first two minutes of action. An assist from
Cassidy Primrose (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) to Bedette extended the lead for Alfred University. Less than two minutes later,
Megan Rinker (Le Roy, NY/Le Roy) notched her first goal of the game. Stansfield added a goal at the 5:47 mark to further the advantage. Alfred State scored once in the first quarter, but goals from Booth and
Jessica Matson (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) had AU ahead 7-1 going into the second quarter. Booth and Stansfield continued to find offensive success in the second quarter, combining for five straight goals for AU. Howlett recorded a pair of saves as part of a shutout quarter for AU, who led 12-1 going into the break.
Both Bedette and
Anna Priebe (Palmyra, NY/Pal-Mac) helped spark Alfred University's offense in the early moments of the third quarter with respective goals. Later in the quarter, Priebe registered her second goal of the evening. AU relied on
Kailynn Hamilton (Farmville, VA/Prince Edward County) during a man-up situation, as she tallied her first collegiate goal. The Pioneers scored once in the closing stages of the third quarter, but Alfred University was still ahead 16-2 going into the fourth quarter. Alfred State scored three times in the final quarter, but a goal from
Darby Lukowski (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy) was enough to hold on for the team's first win of the spring season.
Alfred University will next open Empire 8 competition against Russell Sage at home on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
