Saxons Drop Doubleheader to Martin Luther College

AUBURNDALE, FL -- The Alfred University baseball team played in two games against Martin Luther College on Saturday night.

"We're seeing a lot more quality at-bats and improvements with that," Head Coach Brian Kehew said. "We've got to figure out things defensively, but we're definitely getting better."

Game One

The Saxons would open the scoring in the game from the get-go. In the top of the first Noah Madueno (Florence, AZ/Florence) would knock one into the center field to get Angelo DeFilippis (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) home from second.

Jack Grider (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point) did the same as Madueno, this time to left field in the fifth inning. Will Timpano (Orillia, ON, Canada/Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School) would be runner touching home plate. It would be the only two runs scored in the loss.

Game Two

AU would get two runs across in the fourth inning in the second game of the doubleheader. They both came from back-to-back walks with the bases loaded by Brayden Bedingfield (Seabrook, TX/Clear Falls) and the aforementioned Grider.

The Saxons would put up eight runs in the final two innings, which brought the 20-10 final as close as five runs coming down to the wire. A walked in run by Madueno to bring in Grider would be followed up by a sac fly to left field by Ashton Colunio (Elmira, NY/Edison).

This left AU with two runners on which was taken advantage of. Sam Brocklebank (Bloomfield, NY/Bloomfield) smoked a ball over the left-field wall for the three-run home run and brought the game to 12-7 at the time.

Three more runs came across in the final frame including Nolan Pridmore (Toronto, ON, Canada/Etobicoke Collegiate Institute) on a wild pitch.

Just two more games remain in Florida for spring break before returning to New York for a busy slate of games. They'll face the University of Maine-Farmington at 9:30 a.m. and Noon on Sunday.
