HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC -- The Alfred University men's tennis team concluded their spring break travels to South Carolina with a 6-1 loss to Franciscan University.

"It would be difficult to be pleased with the results but it is easy to be happy about the process," Head Coach Jake Fisler said. "Everyone has continued to improve with each and every day and we are excited to get into conference play. The players are bought into the process and will continue to grow because of it."

Breece Erickson (Goshen, IN/Bethany Christian) would score the lone win for the Saxons. It came in his singles match where he fought hard in three sets to pull it out, 6-1, 3-6, 10-3. Bill Tran (Hanoi, Vietnam/Grace Christian) also took his singles match to three sets but would come out on the losing end 4-6, 6-2, 10-8.

Erickson and Jeffery Merejo (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) played tough in their doubles competition. They went back-and-forth in their 6-4 loss.

Mark Ungurian (Chornomorsk, Ukraine/School #6) and George K. Fearon (Union Springs, NY/Union Springs) also finished with the same scoreline. Both also competed in their singles matches in close results.

AU will head back home to New York to prepare for conference play. But first comes a visit to Lycoming College on Friday, March 28 at 4:00 p.m.
