HILTON HEAD, SC – The Alfred University women's tennis team dropped its spring match to Penn State Harrisburg, 9-0, on Wednesday.
"We got the opportunity to shake off some much needed rust," Head Coach
Jake Fisher said. "These matches give us a chance to get into a competitive situation in the spring. And with a conference season in the fall, this is exactly what we need. We were able to take away what areas we need to improve on, and we learned where our strengths are. Looking forward to another opportunity tomorrow to get back on the court."
Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Educational Complex #143) and
Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) made a huge effort in the doubles at the No. 1 position but lost in the tiebreaker, 7-1. In singles,
Becca Epping (Mitchell, IN/Bedford North Lawrence) and
Allison Windisch (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland) battled it out in a contested first set as they produced five and four points, respectively.
The Saxons continue spring break with a match against St. Mary's College (MD) on Thursday at 5:00 PM.
