REDLANDS, CA - The Alfred University women's lacrosse team concluded their Spring Break trip in California with a 17-3 loss to University of Redlands on Tuesday night.
"We came out with great energy through the entire first quarter," Head Coach
Julie Decker said. "After that, Redlands adjusted and amped up their defensive pressure. We started having trouble in transition and offensively. There were moments when we weren't making smart decisions with the ball, not showing up as outlets in order to move the ball quickly away from pressure or trying to split through defensive pressure unsuccessfully. We need to be smarter and clean up our possessions, make smarter plays with the ball, and work as an offensive unit better in both clears and settled offense. We will definitely see this kind of pressure in our upcoming conference games, so we need to ramp up the intensity at practices and focus on having better, smarter possessions where we are able to finish."
The Bulldogs (6-1, 2-1 SCIAC) built an early lead to open the game, while the Saxons (0-4, 0-0 Empire 8) relied on a goal from
Anna Priebe (Palmyra, NY/Pal-Mac) to get on the scoreboard. The defense played well for AU in the early stages, holding Redlands scoreless across the final 10 minutes of the first quarter. The next goal for Alfred University did not occur until the third quarter, as
Morgan Wise (Kittanning, PA/Armstrong) recorded her first goal of the spring season.
Sydney Angelo (Windsor, NY/Windsor Central) played well for the Saxons, notching her first collegiate goal in the final quarter. However, the scoring efforts of Redlands was too much to overcome before the final horn went off.
Alfred University will next visit Alfred State College for a non-conference outing on Wednesday, March 19 at 5:00 PM.
