WEBSTER, NY -- The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team sits in fourth after the second day of the Empire 8 Championships after a nice day on the deck.

Brian Striker '00 said. "We continue to post an overwhelming amount of best times, and look great in the diving well. We definitely have some work to do over the next two days, but I am confident we will continue to post great results and gain some ground as a team."
First-year collegiate swimmer
Carlos Gonzalez (Baja California, Mexico/Unifront) set his third school record of the year, once again in the 400-yard IM A-Final. He was just .29 seconds off the top step of the podium with his new record of 4:01.25.
At the other end of the spectrum, senior
William LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne) in the A-Final of the 100-yard butterfly clocked in at 50.89. He was an even more minuscule .18 seconds off third place and a medal in the event.
Keagen Winkky (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and
Lungile Raditlati (Gaborone, Botswana/Enko Botho) were in the B-Final of the same event, finishing with respective times of 54.25 and 57.92.
Finally in the 200-yard freestyle, the Saxons had four participants.
Sean Killian (Kenmore, NY/St. Joseph's Collegiate Institution) off the back of his third-place finish in the 500-free Wednesday, added to his collection of podium finishes. He came home eighth in the A-Final, just ahead of
Emmanuel Drappatz (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) who won the B-Final with a 1:46.52.
Alexander Villegas (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and
Diego Monroy (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Simon Bolivar) followed suit with times of 1:50.36 and and 1:53.16 respectively.
Two more days of competition remain at the Webster Aquatic Center. Friday's preliminary races get underway at 10:00 a.m., while the finals start at 5:30 p.m.
