BRADFORD, PA – The Alfred University women's basketball team cruised past the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, 79-41, for its fifth win of the season on Tuesday.
Jaidyn Chest (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) led the way with a season-high 23 points, which was one point short of matching her career high. She has now notched back-to-back 20+ point performances and three overall this season. Chest made a season-high nine field goals with a career-high five from the 3-point line. She also registered four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Jayda L. Felker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) and Natalee Collins (Waterville, NY/Waterville) each posted double-doubles during the contest. For Felker, it was her first career double-double as she tallied 13 points and matched her career-high 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, Collins registered her seventh career double-double with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. It marked the first time two Saxons recorded double-doubles in a game since Jamie Wilcox '20 and Gillian Flint '23 did it against Elms College in the semifinals of the Hat City Tournament in 2019.
The Saxons (5-1, 0-0 Empire 8) dominated the first quarter with a 24-6 advantage, setting the tone for the rest of the game. AU shot 44.4% (8-18) with 33.3% (4-12) from behind the arc. The Saxons' defense held the Panthers (0-5, 0-0 AMCC) to just 5.9% (1-17) overall during the first 10 minutes.
Overall, AU made a season-high 30 field goals on 75 attempts while matching its season-high 11 3-point shots. The Saxons combined for a season-high 67 rebounds. In addition to Felker and Collins' double figures in rebounding, every player who saw minutes also grabbed a board.
AU outscored Pitt-Bradford, 36-18, in the paint and registered 19 points on 22 offensive rebounds. The Saxons also posted 16 points on 14 Panther turnovers and 11 on the fast break.
"Proud of our early efforts and how we came out with great focus on both ends," Head Coach Mike Moskowitz said. "Really pleased that everyone was able to positively contribute double-digit minutes tonight and we're excited to head into break with a win."
AU has the rest of the week off for the holiday break before returning to Terry S. Galanis Family Arena to host its Breast Cancer Awareness game and first E8 contest against Nazareth University on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 2:00 PM.
