WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The Alfred University men's basketball team wrapped up their weekend with a 60-53 loss against Williams College on Sunday afternoon.
The Saxons were led by
Zion Baitey (Morristown, NJ/Morristown), who registered 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Tyler Curran (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) finished the game with 12 points.
Franlys Valenzuela (Santiago de Los Caballeros, Dominican Republic/San Ysidro) totaled seven points and nine boards.
"I'm proud of our guys tonight," Head Coach
Erich Kaempffe said. "That was a good team on the other side. We needed to make a few more plays and didn't quite make them, but I know we'll build off of the positives tonight and keep getting better."
Quick points in the first half from Williams forced the Saxons to play from behind. Baitey scored seven points as part of an 11-0 run for AU to cut their deficit to a pair of points.
Amoi Charles (Elmont, NY/H. Frank Carey) scored in the closing seconds of the half from the free throw line, but Alfred University was behind 33-28 at the break. A deep shot from Curran to begin the second half sparked AU's offense. Williams responded with a 10-0 run to extend their advantage. The Saxons converted from beyond the arc multiple times in the final minutes of regulation but couldn't erase their deficit.
Alfred University will next host Pitt-Bradford on Friday at 7:00 PM.
