Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Saxons Endure 1-0 Loss to No. 13 University of Rochester

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team remained competitive as part of a 1-0 loss to No. 13 University of Rochester on Tuesday evening from Yunevich Stadium.

"I'm proud of how the team played tonight," Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "I thought they did a good job sticking to the game plan and staying disciplined against a nationally ranked Rochester team."

Kiani Barnard-Pratt (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) was tested early in the opening half, picking up her first save in the 4th minute of action. In the 27th minute, AU narrowly avoided a goal from Rochester following a penalty kick. The Saxons defended seven consecutive shots before the Yellowjackets found the back of the net in the 33rd minute. AU had a late corner kick opportunity but couldn't convert before going into halftime with a 1-0 deficit. In the second half, AU relied on a pair of heroic plays from Molly Stainbrook (Clarence, NY/Clarence), who was the last line of defense on a pair of shots from Rochester. Lina Young (North Collins, NY/North Collins) was credited with a shot on goal in the 65th minute, but AU could not get on the scoreboard by the end of regulation.

Alfred University will next return to Empire 8 competition at Utica University on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
