ALFRED, NY - The Alfred University women's soccer team finished their weekend of Empire 8 competition with a scoreless draw against Elmira College on Saturday night from Yunevich Stadium.
The Saxons (6-4-2, 2-2-2 Empire 8) totaled 18 shots on the evening, eight of which were on goal. The defense limited the Soaring Eagles (2-8-1, 1-3-1 Empire 8) to just a pair of corner kick opportunities.
Zoey Wolf (Holley, NY/Holley) led Alfred University with a team-high four shots.
Sidney Khuns (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) and
Lina Young (North Collins, NY/North Collins) each finished the game with two shots on goal.
Kiani Barnard-Pratt (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) picked up a pair of saves in a shutout effort for AU.
"It was unfortunate to not come away with a win tonight," Head Coach
Craig Yanni said. "We will look to get back to work in preparation for a competitive matchup against Rochester."
The Saxons controlled the ball heavily in the offensive third to begin the opening half, as the team was credited with seven shots inside the first 20 minutes of action. The defense held Elmira without a shot on goal until the 33rd minute of action, with Barnard-Pratt picking up the save.
Megan Rinker (Le Roy, NY/Le Roy) attempted a shot in the closing stages in the first half, but neither side could reach the back of the net before halftime. In the second half, Barnard-Pratt made a tremendous effort to deflect a shot on goal to preserve the shutout. The Saxons earned a pair of corner kick opportunities in the final half of regulation, but the Soaring Eagles did enough to walk away with the draw.
Alfred University will next host the University of Rochester on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.
