ALFRED, NY -- For the second time this season, the Alfred University men's rugby team set a scoring record. They put up nearly triple digits in a massive 97-7 win over Le Moyne College on Friday night.
"I am impressed with the effort by everyone tonight," Head Coach
Dale Russell said. "We had a thin roster so most guys had to go 80 minutes and some had to play out of position. It was a team win tonight. It's exciting to see the growth we have this season."
The scoring was quick and fast from the get-go, up 38-0 at the half before putting up 59 points in the second half. 10 different players scored tries, with
Ayomideji Israel-Akinbo (Makhanda, Eastern Cape, South Africa) leading the way with three.
Chevon Adriaans (Paramaribo, Suriname/SGS) and
Eddie Hart IV (Wilton, NY/Saratoga Springs) each had two tries of their own. The other seven tries allowed a variety of scorers and good vibes at Yunevich Stadium.
First-year scorers included
Shamar Imang (Paramaribo, Suriname/Ewald P. Meyer Lyceum) and
Zachary Cuddy (Whitman, MA/South Shore Vocational Technical). Cuddy continued his kicking prowess, hitting double-digits in conversions with 12. The lone sophomore scorer was
Phillip Peterson III (Auburn, NY/Auburn).
Three juniors scored, including
Nathan Towne (Ellenville, NY/Ellenville Jr/Sr),
Hector De La Rosa (Williamson, NY/Sodus), and
Joseph Bodley (Le Roy, NY/Caledonia-Mumford). Last, and certainly not least, was the lone senior scorer in
Ehab AlQtam (Malah, Yemen/Newcomb Central), who received a ruckus cheer for his try.
AU moves to 4-1 heading into Senior Day on Friday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. against the University of Rochester.
