ERIE, PA – The Alfred University men's tennis team played its final match of the fall season, dropping it to Penn State Behrend by a score of 4-3 on Saturday.
"Not the result we wanted, but definitely a great battle," Head Coach Jake Fisler said. "This was a much improved team and we pushed them to the brink. The team did a great job supporting one another and every match was a battle."
André López Jiménez (Mexico City, Mexico/PrepaTec Esmeralda) and Matthew Bittel (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) won the lone doubles match for the Saxons (1-2, 0-0 Empire 8), coming out victorious in a tiebreaker at No. 2 by a score of 7-6 (7-3).
Jimenez earned the first singles victory for AU, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1. At No. 4, Bittel lost the first set, 6-3, before coming back to seal the match win with scores of 6-0, 7-5. Breece Erickson (Goshen, IN/Bethany Christian) lost the first set before climbing back up to secure set scores of 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 to come out on top at No. 2. Unfortunately, it was not enough to make the comeback against the Lions (2-2, 0-0 AMCC).
AU returns to action in the spring of 2026.
