ONEONTA, NY -- The Alfred University men's soccer team fell in its penultimate regular season road game 1-0 to Hartwick College.

"We played our hearts out and came out on the wrong side," Head Coach Garret Eldridge said. 

Alfred controlled play in the first half with six shots. This included a scramble in the Hawks' end with shots from Xavier Bowman (Hampstead, MD/Manchester Valley), Dennis Hayes V (Ferndale, MI/Berkley), and Hamza Kromah (Margibi, Liberia/Western Reserve Academy) not finding the net.

Both Bowman and Hayes V finished with three shots. Kromah had two cracks at the net, alongside Rodrigo Perez (Pelencia, Spain/IES Victorio Macho). Cameron Daley (Montreal, Quebec, Canada/South Kent School) also had a nice shot at net in the first half from the defensive back line.

Alfred fell behind in the 51st minute but kept on pushing. They got their best chance to tie it late, but Hayes' shot from inside the six yard box hit the underside of the bar and came down on the wrong side of the goal line in the 82nd minute.

The Saxons are now teetering on the edge of the Empire 8 tournament with a 4-8-3 overall record, and 2-4-3 in conference play. They'll look to get a chance for the dance against SUNY Poly in the final regular season game on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m.
