ALFRED, NY -- The Alfred University men's rugby team celebrated two seniors who both took part in the scoring action in a big 87-21 win over the University of Rochester.
Led by Head Coach
Dale Russell, the two seniors celebrated were
Ehab AlQtam (Malah, Yemen/Newcomb Central) and
Eddie Hart IV (Wilton, NY/Saratoga Springs). They showed up and showed out as a squad for their fifth win of the fall 15's season.
Hart led the Saxons offense Friday evening with five tries.
Ayomideji Israel-Akinbo (Makhanda, Eastern Cape, South Africa/St. Andrews College) was the lone other Saxon with multiple tries, scoring two.
Six other Saxons scored a single try. The freshman scorers included
Ky Simson (Brooklyn, NY/Erasmus Hall) and
Zachary Cuddy (Whitman, MA/South Shore Vocational Technical). Cuddy continued his prowess in conversions, knocking through 11 of them.
Sophomore scorers included
Chevon Adriaans (Paramaribo, Suriname/SGS) and
Phillip Peterson III (Auburn, NY/Auburn). The lone junior scorer was
Nathan Towne (Ellenville, NY/Ellenville), which came in the first half. However, it would be a story book ending for EQ AlQtam as he scored the final try of the evening to wrap up a near-perfect senior night.
"From the first whistle, I knew my boys would make me proud," EQ said. "Today is not only senior day, but it's Alfred Men's Rugby day."
"The team played great today and I'm so proud of everyone. The team has improved so much in one year and still has so much room to grow," Hart IV said. "Every single teammate has pushed me to be better every single day and I'm so appreciative that the results of that showed tonight!"
AU still has one more match to go in the regular season this fall, coming on the road against SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
