ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team remained competitive as part of a 2-1 loss to SUNY Brockport on Wednesday evening from Yunevich Stadium.

"I'm proud of how hard the team worked tonight," Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "Unfortunately, a few small mistakes ended up costing us against a talented Brockport team."

The offense for Alfred University (6-7-2, 2-4-2 Empire 8) set the tone in the early stages, forcing a pair of corner kicks within the first five minutes of action. Brockport (10-0-3, 8-0-0 Empire 8) responded with their first goal of the contest in the 11th minute. The Saxons nearly got on the scoreboard following a header from Madison Rudenauer (Hornell, NY/Hornell), but it went off the crossbar before halftime.

Alfred University equalized the game in the 75th minute, as a corner kick from Abby Scanlan (Albion, NY/Charles D'Amico) to Sidney Khuns (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) found the back of the net. The Saxons limited the Golden Eagles to just two shots on goal in the final half of regulation, but Brockport managed to score in the 82nd minute to close out the game with a win.

Alfred University will next travel to face SUNY Geneseo on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
