Women's Tennis Secures First Win vs. Mount Aloysius

CRESSON, PA - A dominant effort from the Alfred University women's tennis team resulted in a 6-1 win over Mount Aloysius College on Friday afternoon. 

"The team went out there and took care of business," Head Coach Jake Fisler said. "Everyone stayed focused on the task at hand and the results show that. Averill played exceptionally well and controlled the match from start to finish. This was a great team performance and we are looking to build on that at Grove City tomorrow."

The Saxons opened doubles play with a victory from the No. 2 position, as Becca Epping (Mitchell, IN/Bedford North Lawrence) and Alyssa Seegert (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) won in 6-2 fashion. Claire Lander (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) was joined by Averill Hollond (Linwood, KS/Basehor-Linwood) in No. 3 doubles as part of a 6-2 win. Alfred University rounded out doubles play with Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) and Allison Windisch (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland) winning 6-2 from the top of the lineup. 

In singles action, the first point for AU came from Epping from the No. 4 position, as she won 6-1, 6-0. Seegert continued her impressive afternoon with a 6-1, 6-1 win from No. 2 singles for the Saxons. Windisch picked up her second singles victory of the fall season from the No. 3 spot in 6-2, 6-1 fashion. The winning point for AU came from Hollond at No. 6 singles, who won her first collegiate singles match, 6-1, 6-0. Lander concluded the afternoon for the Saxons with a competitive 6-3, 6-2 victory from the No. 5 position. 

Alfred University will next travel to face Grove City College on Saturday with doubles matches beginning at 1:00 PM.
