FREDONIA, NY - The Alfred University women's tennis began their week with a 5-2 loss against Fredonia on Wednesday evening from the Steele Tennis Courts.
"This was a tough day at the office," Head Coach
Jake Fisler said. "We fought hard, but faltered at the end. I was very impressed with the doubles effort, particularly from Claire and Averill. They took care of business and then supported the rest of the team. We are looking forward to the next match!"
Claire Lander (Rochester, NY/Chruchville-Chili) and
Averill Hollond (Linwood, KS/Basehor-Linwood) represented Alfred University well from the No. 3 position in doubles action, winning in 6-2 fashion. The first official point for the Saxons came from singles play, as
Allison Windisch (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland) battled as part of a 6-2, 5-7, 10-5 victory from the No. 3 spot. Lander rounded out her impressive afternoon from No. 5 singles, winning in two consecutive sets for the Saxons.
Alfred University will next travel to face Mount Aloysius College on Friday with doubles action beginning at 3:00 PM.
