OLEAN, NY - The Alfred University women's tennis team competed in their lone conference match of the week on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 9-0 loss to Hartwick College.
"Hartwick was a great team," Head Coach
Jake Fisler said. "We showed we could compete with them in doubles but were unable to bring that same level in singles. We know what we need to do in practice to learn from this and move forward."
The Saxons put up a competitive effort in doubles action, as
Alyssa Seegert (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) was joined by
Becca Epping (Mitchell, IN/Bedford North Lawrence) at No. 2 as part of a tiebreaker effort. At the top of the lineup,
Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) and
Allison Windisch (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland) put together five points. In singles play, Madsen put together a contested first set at the No. 1 position, but Hartwick managed to close out the afternoon with the sweep.
Alfred University will next host St. John Fisher on Friday as part of Homecoming Weekend at 4:00 PM. The event will be the program's annual Pink Match, as well as their Saxon-for-Saxon outing.
