UTICA, NY - Excellent efforts in both doubles and singles play resulted in a 9-0 win for the Alfred University women's tennis team over Utica University on Sunday afternoon.
The Saxons have now won each of their last four matchups against the Pioneers, dating back to the 2021-22 season.
"This was a great team effort," Head Coach
Jake Fisler said. "They supported each other from start to finish and got the result because of it. This is a team sport and today showed that."
Claire Lander (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) and
Averill Hollond (Linwood, KS/Linwood-Basehor) got things started for AU, picking up an 8-1 win from No. 3 doubles. At the top of the lineup,
Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) was joined by
Allison Windisch (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland) as part of an 8-2 victory.
Alyssa Seegert (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) and
Becca Epping (Mitchell, IN/Bedford North Lawrence) rounded out doubles play with an 8-4 win for the Saxons.
Madsen, competing from No. 2 singles, ended her respective afternoon with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win. Windisch picked up her third singles win of the fall season from the No. 3 spot in 6-3, 6-1 fashion. Seegert represented Alfred University from the top of the lineup in singles, winning 6-0, 6-1. Epping recorded her second singles victory of the new season from No. 4, 6-2, 6-2. Lander and Hollond each found themselves in the win column following two sets to complete the afternoon for AU.
Alfred University will next host Hartwick College on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
