Saxons Drop Season-Opener to Oswego

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team fell in its season-opener from the Alfred University Tennis Courts, 6-1 on Friday evening to Oswego State.

The Saxons (0-1, 0-0 Empire 8) picked up their lone point at No. 2 singles as Alyssa Seegert (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) defeated Rafaela Dimitrakopoulou, 6-4, 3-6, 10-5.

"Not the result we wanted but I am very proud of the fight we put up," Head Coach Jake Fisler said. "I think this was a great learning experience and gave us a good idea of where our strengths lie and where we need to improve. I was very pleased with their process throughout the match and am looking forward to another opportunity tomorrow to show all the hard work they have put into this season."

AU earned another win as Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) and Allison Windisch (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland) won at No. 1 doubles, defeating Avery Borman and Isabella Eason, 7-5. The win didn't count towards the team's point total as the new NCAA rule for non-conference matches made doubles a best-of-three, single-point series. Oswego picked up the point after winning at the other two doubles' spots.

The Saxons will next host Farmingdale State College on Saturday, August 31 at 1pm with a rain location set at St. Bonaventure University's indoor tennis courts at 3pm.
