ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University baseball team began their final weekend of spring competition with a pair of losses against St. John Fisher University on Saturday.
The Saxons lost the first game 15-0, while dropping the second game 11-1.
Game One
Anthony Cortez (Los Angeles, CA/Legacy) and
Aaron Buck (Houghton, NY/Fillmore) each saw time on the mound in the first game, combining for four strikeouts.
Quinton Jordan (Olean, NY/Olean) was the first Saxon to record a base hit in the fifth inning.
Nolan Pridmore (Toronto, ON, Canada/Etobicoke Collegiate Institute) and
Cameron Brought (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) each recorded a base hit in the following inning, but the Saxons were unable to cross home plate before the Cardinals took a win in the first game.
Game Two
Owen Jennings (Newcastle, ON, Canada/St. Stephen's Secondary) tossed a complete game for AU in the second leg of the doubleheader, striking out three batters.
The first hit for the Saxons came in the third inning, as
Paul Tuttle (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) recorded a single through the left side. In the following inning, Brought drew a walk and stole second base to put himself into scoring position. Pridmore eventually drove in Brought with a single to put Alfred University on the scoreboard.
St. John Fisher scored in each of the final five innings, as the game was called at the end of the seventh inning.
Alfred University will next wrap up their season against the Cardinals on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
