Women's Lacrosse Opens E8 Competition With 12-2 Victory Over Keuka

KEUKA PARK, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team began Empire 8 competition with a 12-2 win over Keuka College on Saturday.

The Saxons (5-5, 1-0 Empire 8) have now tied their most wins in a regular season dating back to the 2013 campaign.

Hailey Stroh (Houghton, NY/Homeschool) led Alfred University with a pair of goals and assists. Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) finished the game with four goals. Morgan Wise (Kittanning, PA/Armstrong) added three goals for AU.

"We came up with some good defensive stops today and executed well offensively," Head Coach Julie Decker said. "It feels great to start conference play with a win."

The Saxons offense set the tone early in the first quarter, as a goal from Kylee Bedette (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) gave AU the initial lead. Additional goals from Booth and Wise extended the lead for Alfred University. Keuka was limited to just one goal in the opening quarter, which was offset thanks to a man-up goal from Alescia Nitti (Brewster, NY/Brewster), as AU led 4-1 going into the second quarter. Booth opened scoring for the Saxons in the second quarter. Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) got involved on the offensive end, notching her first goal of the afternoon. The Wolves were once again limited to a single goal in the second quarter, while the Saxons relied on goals from Booth and Stroh before taking an 8-2 advantage into the break.

In the third quarter, the lone goal from either side came from Alfred University, as an assist from Stroh to Wise during a man-up situation extended the lead for the Saxons. Alyssa Piechota (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) was outstanding on the defensive end throughout the afternoon, recording six saves in the third quarter to allow Alfred University to carry a 9-2 lead into the fourth quarter. Wise sparked AU's offense once more, finding the back of the net to begin the fourth quarter. Booth and Stroh each scored in the final six minutes of regulation, as Alfred University closed out the game with the victory.

Alfred University will next host Nazareth University on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
