UTICA, NY –The Alfred University men's lacrosse team picked up their fourth straight victory following a 15-6 win over Utica University on Saturday.
The Saxons (8-2, 2-0 Empire 8) have now won six consecutive games against the Pioneers dating back to the 2018 season.
Josh Hauman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) led Alfred University with five goals and one assist.
Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) and
Justin Mosher (Hilton, NY/Hilton) each finished the game with one goal to go with a pair of assists.
Cole Loewke (Hilton, NY/Hilton) added three goals for AU.
"We started off a little slow on offense, but
Hunter Cupp did a great job at the face off to get us some extra possessions," Head Coach
Jason Lockner said. "Hauman played excellent and all three of our goalies made some nice stops."
Alfred University got on the scoreboard early in the first quarter thanks to a goal from Hauman. Utica responded with a goal of their own before
Owen Zimmerman (Reamstown, PA/Cocalico) and Matson each found the back of the net.
Quinn Sullivan (Elmira, NY/Elmira) made four saves across the final 10 minutes of the quarter, as the Saxons were ahead 3-1.
Brendan Riley (Fairport, NY/Fairport) opened scoring for AU in the second quarter. The Pioneers answered with a goal, but Hauman quickly offset the damage with a goal for the Saxons just moments later.
Cameron Kenefick (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) was one of three players for AU to score across the final five minutes of the first half, as the Saxons led 8-3 going into halftime.
Max Freeman IV (Painted Post, NY/Corning-Painted Post) scored his first goal of the spring season during the third quarter. Utica was limited to just one goal, while Alfred University relied on three combined goals between Kenefick and Loewke before the end of the third quarter. Loewke clinched his third goal of the afternoon in the early stages of the fourth quarter. The Pioneers scored once before Hauman found the back of the net on two different occasions for AU. Utica scored once more, but the defense stood tall and allowed Alfred University to hold on for the win.
