Women's Lacrosse Tames Mustangs in 20-10 Home Win

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team wrapped up non-conference action with a 20-10 win over SUNY Morrisville on Tuesday from Yunevich Stadium.

The Saxons (4-5, 0-0 Empire 8) relied on goals from eight different players as part of their win.

Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) led Alfred University with six goals and two assists. Kylee Bedette (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) finished the game with six goals to go with an assist. Hailey Stroh (Houghton, NY/Homeschool) added two goals and two assists for AU.

"We came out fired up and really wanted this game after losing to them in a bit of a heated game last year," Head Coach Julie Decker said. "It was great to see us execute things we've been working on recently in practice and putting them into game play effectively. We are continuing to show improvements and that really is the goal every single day."

A pair of goals from Booth to begin the first quarter gave Alfred University the early lead. Bedette scored twice in the span of a minute to extend the lead for the Saxons. Morrisville got themselves on the scoreboard, but AU responded with a goal from Alescia Nitti (Brewster, NY/Brewster). The Mustangs scored once more, but a goal from Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) had Alfred University ahead 6-2 going into the second quarter. Booth and Stroh combined for three early goals in the second quarter. Morrisville scored once before Alfred University retaliated with goals from four different players, including Nora Vick (Whitesboro, NY/Whiteboro). The Mustangs found the back of the net before the end of the first half, but a late goal from Bedette had the Saxons leading 14-4 going into the break.

Morgan Wise (Kittanning, PA/Armstrong) and Bedette opened scoring for Alfred University in the second half. Morrisville scored before the end of the third quarter, as the Saxons led 16-5 with one quarter to play. Morrisville was the first to get on th scoreboard in the fourth quarter, but an early goal from Booth offset the damage. The Mustangs tallied three more goals before the end of the game, but goals from Bedette, Nitti and Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor) secured the win for Alfred University.

Alfred University will next begin Empire 8 competition with a trip to Keuka College on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
