Women's Lacrosse Falls to St. John Fisher in Home Matchup

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team continued their spring season with a 20-1 home loss to St. John Fisher University on Wednesday.

Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) scored Alfred University's lone goal across two shots. Alyssa Piechota (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) finished the game with 13 saves to go with eight ground balls and four caused turnovers. Piechota has now recorded 71 ground balls during the 2024 season, marking a program record for the Saxons.

"Fisher is a strong team," Head Coach Julie Decker said. "Although the final score doesn't show it, we can see the improvements we've made as a team and will continue to strive to improve."

The defense for the Saxons stood tall early in the opening quarter, as Piechota recorded two saves across the first five minutes of action. The Cardinals eventually reached the back of the net twice to build an early lead. The defense held St. John Fisher without a goal during the final four minutes of the first quarter. A free position shot by Booth put the Saxons on the scoreboard in the closing seconds, but AU still trailed 6-1 going into the second quarter. Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) was the lone member of Alfred University to record a shot on goal in the second quarter. Piechota recorded four additional saves, but St. John Fisher led 13-1 going into the break. Piechota finished the second half with six more saves for the Saxons, but the offense was held scoreless before the final horn eventually went off.

Alfred University will next compete in their final road game of the regular season with a trip to Hartwick College on Saturday at 12:00 PM.
