Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Short to Russell Sage, 11-9

ALBANY, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team wrapped up their weekend with an 11-9 loss to Russell Sage College on Saturday.

Kylee Bedette (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) led Alfred University with five goals. Morgan Wise (Kittanning, PA/Armstrong) ended the game with two goals and two assists. Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) and Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) each added a goal for AU.

"We had a strong second half to come back and make it close," Head Coach Julie Decker said. "Giving up a 5-0 lead in the first quarter killed us and ultimately cost us the game."

Alfred University was forced to play from behind after Russell Sage built a 5-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Bedette was the first to score for the Saxons in the early stages of the second quarter. An additional goal from the Gators was answered by Booth, who received an assist from Taylor Jackson (Brighton, MI/Howell). Both Bedette and Call reached the back of the net before the end of the first half, but Alfred University still trailed 9-4.

The Saxons began to find some offensive momentum in the second half, as Wise was the first to score for AU. Bedette scored on two more occasions by the end of the third quarter, as Alfred University cut their deficit to 10-7 with one quarter remaining. The Gators added one goal of their own, while the Saxons relied on Bedette and Wise in the closing minutes of regulation before time ran out on a potential comeback.

Alfred University will next host St. John Fisher University on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
