ALFRED, NY – Offensive efforts from the Alfred University men's lacrosse team led to a 23-11 win over Concordia University (Wis.) on Wednesday from Yunevich Stadium.
The Saxons (3-0, 0-0 Empire 8) put together 59 shots as part of their win.
Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) led Alfred University with a team-high nine points from four goals and five assists.
Owen Zimmerman (Reamstown, PA/Cocalico) finished the game with four goals to go with three assists.
Cole Loewke (Hilton, NY/Hilton) added five goals and three assists for AU.

Cameron Kenefick is doing a great job on the ground balls. It was a great team win today."
The Saxons wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as an assist from
Justin Mosher (Hilton, NY/Hilton) to
Josh Hauman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) gave AU the early lead. Less than a minute later,
Brendan Riley (Fairport, NY/Fairport) extended the advantage for Alfred University. Both Hauman and Zimmerman found the back of the net before the Cougars scored their first goal of the afternoon. Concordia scored two more goals, but three goals between Matson and Mosher had the Saxons leading 7-3 going into the second quarter. Alfred University continued to find their way on the offensive end, as an assist from Mosher to Hauman opened scoring for the Saxons in the second quarter. Four different players for AU were responsible for nine straight goals in the second quarter before the team went into halftime with a commanding 16-3 lead.
Concordia relied on three goals in the third quarter, but Matson found the back of the net and Alfred University was still leading 17-6 with one quarter remaining. The Cougars managed to score five goals in the final quarter, but
Peter Colburn (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) and
Tyler Muskopf (Elma, NY/Iroquois) were among those to score to allow Alfred University to come away with the win.
Alfred University will next travel to Bel Air, Maryland to face Nichols College in a neutral matchup on Sunday at 12:00 PM.
