Amelia Booth Notches 100th Career Goal, Saxons Fall to Grove City

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team scored in all four quarters but dropped their home-opener to Grove City College in a 17-10 loss on Monday.

The Saxons (0-2, 0-0 Empire 8) picked up 22 ground balls in their efforts.

Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) notched her 100th career goal with Alfred University and finished the game with five goals and an assist. Hailey Stroh (Houghton, NY/Homeschool) recorded four points from a pair of goals and assists. Morgan Wise (Kittanning, PA/Armstrong) added two goals for AU.

"Grove City is quick and had some great sticks," Head Coach Julie Decker said. "We made some mistakes with careless turnovers and missing loose balls which they capitalized on. Looking at the positive, we were able to make adjustments and regain some compsure converting on clears late in the game, coming up with more draw controls down the stretch, and we assisted on half our goals today."

Grove City was the first to get on the scoreboard, but back-to-back goals from Booth gave the Saxons their first lead of the afternoon. The Wolverines responded with four consecutive goals to take a 5-2 lead into the second quarter. Grove City began the second quarter with three straight goals before a man-up goal from Booth cut the deficit for AU. Stroh scored for Alfred University the closing minutes of the first half but were trailing 9-4 at the break.

The lone goal for the Saxons in the third quarter came from an assist from Stroh to Booth. Grove City answered with five goals in the quarter to extend their advantage. Kylee Bedette (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) scored the first goal for Alfred University in the fourth quarter. Less than a minute later, Wise managed to find the back of the net. Booth, Wise and Stroh all scored across the final three minutes of regulation, but the comeback was stopped by the final horn.

Alfred University will next travel to face Westminster College (PA) on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
