ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team continued their spring season with a 17-8 loss to Buffalo State College on Wednesday.
Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) led Alfred University with five goals and one assist.
Morgan Wise (Kittanning, PA/Armstrong) scored once from three shots on goal.
Alyssa Piechota (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) recorded 12 saves in goal for AU.
"I'm proud of the way our team worked hard from start to finish and stuck together as a team," Head Coach
Julie Decker said. "We will keep working to improve and make necessary adjustments in order to come out on top."
The Bengals built a 4-0 lead in the first quarter, but Booth responded with her first goal of the afternoon for the Saxons. In the second quarter, Booth was the first member of AU to reach the back of the net. A third goal from Booth was followed by a man-up goal from
Hailey Stroh (Houghton, NY/Homeschool) to cut the deficit. Buffalo State scored on two more occasions before taking a 9-4 lead into the break.
The first goal in the second half came from Booth, thanks to an assist from
Kylee Bedette (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo). Wise scored for the Saxons late in the quarter, but the team trailed 14-6 with one quarter remaining. Two early goals from the Bengals in the fourth quarter were met by goals from Booth and
Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy). Buffalo State scored once more in the closing minutes of regulation before the final horn went off.
Alfred University will next travel to face Thiel College on Saturday at 12:00 PM.
