Saxon Cheer Tops Gannon in Narrow Second Place Finish at Elmira

ELMIRA, NY -- The Alfred University cheerleading team, for the first time in school history, defeated perennial powerhouse, Gannon University at the Upstate Collegiate Championships, hosted by Elmira College on Sunday, March 10.

"History has been made once again. I've said multiple times that Gannon and Elmira are strong cheer forces in the region and I'm proud to have been truly competitive with them at the Upstate Collegiate Competition, falling in second place," Head Coach Dr. Amy Button-Ervin said. "Our performance wasn't perfect, with one deduction in our single series after making changes in the two days before Sunday due to injury. However, our pyramid was strong with a recent upgrade. This week we are pushing hard in preparation for our inaugural home competition, where we will once again compete against Gannon and Elmira, as well as Molly University. We know our competitors will be fighting hard too, so it should be a fun battle to watch. Our goal is to hit 0 even with additional upgrades to our pyramid and single series stunts."

The Saxons will continue to make history as they host their first ever cheerleading and dance competition on Sunday, March 17, starting at noon with AU slotted to take the mats at 1:20.
