HAMBURG, NY – Dominant performances on both ends of the field resulted in a 19-0 win for the Alfred University women's lacrosse team on Wednesday.
The Saxons (2-2, 0-0 Empire 8) had goals from 10 different players as part of their winning efforts.
Morgan Wise (Kittanning, PA/Armstrong) led Alfred University with a team-high five goals to go with an assist. Both
Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) and
Kylee Bedette (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) finished the game with three goals and two assists.
Alescia Nitti (Brewster, NY/Brewster) added two goals and an assist for the Saxons.
"Today was a great team win," Head Coach
Julie Decker said. "We played hard right from the beginning and got to work on a lot of things throughout the game. It feels exciting to find out this was our first shutout win in 14 years. It proves that we are making progress towards our team and program goals."
Alfred University wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the opening quarter, as
Hailey Stroh (Houghton, NY/Homeschool) found the back of the net initially. Moments later, an assist from Wise to Bedette extended the lead for AU. Additional goals from Nitti, Bedette and Booth had the Saxons leading 5-0 with still over 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Bedette scored once more before
Taylor Jackson (Brighton, MI/Howell) recorded her first collegiate goal with Alfred University. Booth and Wise combined for three goals to close out the first quarter, as the Saxons were ahead 10-0.
Within the first minute of the second quarter, an assist from
Nora Vick (Whiteboro, NY/Whiteboro) to Booth sparked AU's offense once again.
Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) scored her first goal of the afternoon following an assist from
Natalie Farchione (Faiport, NY/Faiport), as Alfred University led 12-0 at halftime.
The second half held a similar tune, as Wise scored back-to-back goals to begin the third quarter for the Saxons. Bedette and Nitti each found the back of the net before
Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor) scored her first goal for AU. The defense held Hilbert without a single shot attempt in the third quarter, resulting in a 17-0 advantage with one quarter to play.
Cassidy Primrose (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) was the first to score for the Saxons in the fourth quarter. Later on,
Mallory Johnson (Sanborn, NY/Starpoint) clinched her first collegiate goal with Alfred University. The defense once again stood tall for the Saxons, recording the program's first shutout victory since the 2010 season.
Alfred University will next travel to face SUNY Potsdam on Saturday at 12:00 PM.
