Men's Basketball Drops Loss to Pioneers

UTICA, NY – Consistent scoring from Utica University led to an 83-66 win over the Alfred University men's basketball team on Friday night from the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium.

Adam Enders (Belfast, NY/Belfast) led Alfred University with a team-high 18 points to go with four rebounds. Oscar Wolter (Munich, Germany/Lycee Jean Renoir) finished the game with 14 points and five boards. Gabe Eldaye (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) added eight points for AU.

"Not quite what we were looking for tonight," Head Coach Erich Kaempffe said. "A lot of credit to Coach Coffey and Utica for their gameplan and execution. The great thing about college basketball is we get another chance to compete tomorrow. We're excited about that."

The offense ran through Wolter in the early stages of the first half, as he scored the team's first five points. A deep shot from Enders gave AU the inital lead. The Pioneers responded with an 11-0 run later in the half that was ultimately snapped by a shot from Tyler Curran (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone). The defense limited Utica to just two points across the final two minutes of the half, but Alfred University still trailed 42-33.

The Pioneers began the second half on a 9-0 run before Eldaye scored five straight points for the Saxons. Five different players scored for Alfred University as part of a 12-0 run to cut the deficit to single-digit figures with just over eight minutes remaining. Eldaye and Tyler Hind (Randolph, NY/Randolph) each hit late shots, but Utica managed to hold onto their lead to close out the game.

Alfred University will next compete in their final regular season game at Keuka College on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
