HOUGHTON, NY -- The Alfred University women's volleyball team was eliminated from the Empire 8 Championship Tournament on Tuesday night by No. 4 seeded Houghton University.
The No. 5 seeded Saxons (15-9, 7-4 Empire 8) fell 19-25, 14-25, 19-25 on Tuesday. Both
Carleigh Santavy (Commerce, MI/Walled Lake Northern) and
Abigail Omelan (Tomball, TX/Tomball Memorial) had eight kills for 8.0 points to lead the scoring efforts with
Cara Bratthauar (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg Area) totaling 7.5 points off seven kills and one block assist and
Taylor Malone (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) totaled 7.0 points on seven kills.
Delaney Sims (Bogart, GA/George Walton Academy) had 27 set assists, two aces, one block assist and four digs.
Jamie Chun (Hilo, HI/Hilo) had nine digs.
"Our season didn't end the way we had hoped," Head Coach
Mike Honeycutt said. "But, we accomplished so many firsts again this year that I couldn't be more proud of this team! If we take one thing away from this, it's that we get to play the game we love and get to share that love with our family, friends and fans."
The Saxons' season was the best finish since the 2000 Alfred University women's volleyball season, where they went 25-15.
