ALFRED, NY – Alfred University's Abigail Omelan (Tomball, TX/Tomball Memorial) was named one of the Empire 8 Women's Volleyball Co-Rookies of the Week on Monday.
 
Omelan broke the Alfred University school record for hitting percentage in a three-set match as she hit a .750 in a win at Elmira College, totaling nine kills on 12 attacks with no errors. She finished the Empire 8 weekend second on the team in each match in scoring, totaling 10.5 points at Elmira and 12.5 points in a four-set home win over Keuka College. Both point totals were career-highs as she had five career-highs in total and another four career-high ties. Omelan had career-highs in four-set points (12.5), four-set kills (12), three-set points (10.5) and four-set hitting percentage (.429) to go along with her three-set hitting percentage. In total, Omelan had 23.0 points on 21 kills with one ace and two block assists. She added 10 digs and two assists while hitting .545 on the weekend on 33 attacks with only three errors.
 
Omelan was joined by Houghton's Lilly Bentley as the other half of the Empire 8 Rookie of the Week selection.
