ALFRED, NY -- Alfred University's Men's Soccer team found themselves dead-even on the score sheet with a 1-1 draw against Elmira College Saturday night.

"Tough draw today versus Elmira," Head Coach Tracy Blake said. "We have a bye week from games midweek so we will be ready for Utica next Saturday."

While it was an even first half an hour, the Saxons started growing more into the game with chances from Niko Lampros (Lake Oswego, OR/Lakeridge) and Xavier Bowman (Hampstead, MD/Manchester Valley) getting looks, including the latter of the two hitting the crossbar right in front of goal. At the other end, Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) was busy making five key saves in the half, including stopping a 1-on-1 chance brilliantly in the final minute.

It would only take two minutes for the Eagles of Elmira to find the back of the net in the second half, but not much longer for Alfred University to respond. Ian Landsittel (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) had his long throw-in flicked on by Bowman, finding the feet of Alexander Teijeira (North Collins, NY/North Collins) to slot home in the 54th minute. The Saxons continued to push all through the second half and were close to getting the winner multiple times in the closing minutes, ending the match with 10 corner kicks.

"Again Tyler Mulholland in goal was huge with some great saves," Blake said. "However we had several chances to score, and I thought we had enough of the game to take the three points."

They'll get another chance to do so next Saturday, October 12 on the road at Utica University. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 pm.
