ALFRED, NY - A competitive defensive outing for the Alfred University women's soccer team ended with a scoreless draw against Russell Sage College on Tuesday afternoon. 

"I thought it was a great defensive effort from us today," Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "We are happy to come away with a point against a tough conference opponent. Our coaching staff will get together over the next few days to figure out how to find more opportunities in the offensive third as we prepare to compete on the road."

The best scoring opportunity for the Saxons came within the first 15 seconds of the opening half, as Lina Young (North Collins, NY/North Collins) hit a shot that deflected off the goalkeeper's hands and into the crossbar. The Gators responded with their first corner kick of the afternoon just moments later, which Alfred University successfully defended. Kiani Barnard-Pratt (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) had success throughout the game for AU, recording three saves in the opening half. In the 66th minute, Sage drew a penalty kick. However, a great save by Barnard-Pratt kept the Saxons in the game. AU had a pair of corner kicks in the second half, along with a shot on goal from Amber Bates (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt), but could not reach the back of the net before the end of regulation. 

Alfred University will next compete on the road against Hartwick College on Friday at 7:00 PM.
